This gem of a documentary explored universal issues of race and poverty through the intimate portrait of a struggling elementary school and its inspiring principal.

Love Them First directors Lindsey Seavert and Ben Garvin spoke with duPont Awards Director Lisa R. Cohen after a screening of the film at Columbia Journalism School in January of 2020. They discussed how they created a feature documentary while also producing dozens of stories for nightly news broadcasts.
