Welcome 2023-2024 duPont Fellows

We are pleased to announce our 2023-2024 duPont Columbia Award Fellows. Nishtha Shanti and Darryl Laiu join us as Fellows from the Columbia Journalism School as they pursue their graduate studies.

Nishtha Shanti is a full-time student at Columbia Journalism School and is doing the M.S. Documentary Specialization. Her passion lies in longform visual storytelling, and she hopes to build a career doing work that champions intersectional feminism. Prior to this, she worked as a multimedia journalist in New Delhi for five years and has an undergraduate degree in Philosophy from the University of Delhi.

Darryl Laiu is a full-time student in the M.S. Data Journalism program at Columbia Journalism School. Prior to this, he was a multimedia journalist in Singapore, covering a wide range of issues from international politics to local culture. He hopes to continue telling stories across different media, and use data to add rigor and new perspectives to them. He has an undergraduate degree in Philosophy from the National University of Singapore.

The duPont Fellows have a passion for audio and video journalism. In their role, they sit in on the duPont Awards judging process, correspond with awardees, assist with duPont’s On Assignment Podcast, and administrative tasks, as well as prepare for the duPont Awards Ceremony in February 2024. Welcome, Fellows!
